Avant-Garde music forum at „OGame“
To take
definition from wikipedia:
Avant-garde represents a pushing of the boundaries of what is accepted as the
norm, or the status quo
For those who dont understand, it is basically the complete polar opposite of
pop, and a step beyond progressive, which is often thought to be impossible.
Indeed, it takes musical theories, understands them to the point of flawing (eg,
where a usual artist questions catchiness of music, an avant-garde artist
questions the definition of music), and puts them to the extreme. Particularly
in Avant-Garde Metal, structuring of the songs is abnormal, combining unnatural
time signatures with unusual instruments and often variations of adaptive "noise".
Strange keys are often chosen, and lyrics are often extremely varied and
abstract. Experimentative styles are also considered, as I said, it takes music
theories to the extreme, taking full acknowledgement of the science involved in
musicology.
For these reasons, it is often referred to as "Extreme Music". Avant-Garde
is generally rejected from mainstream circulations for the same reasons, with
Avant-Garde Metal sharing similar success proportions as Funeral Doom Metal.
Although, there are a few known Avant-Garde artists. Like the person who created
a song with a few minutes of silence at a concert.
I find it an aquired taste, as it's like an entirely new genre of music. But
none-the-less, a great kind of new.
Bands like In The Woods..., Aaen Anima
and Arcturus are some great Avant-Garde artists, particularly "299 796
km/s" by In The Woods..., and "In Atharaxia" by Aaen Anima, which
both pretty much rawly define Avant-Garde.
Overall, I'd say that the genre isnt for the light-hearted. As I pointed out, it's
the polar opposite of pop music. You will need an apt understanding and wide
ranged taste in music before I even begin recommending the genre to you.
If you like multiple forms of metal, jazz, classical, or progressive music, and
understand it well and the theory behind it, then I grant this path a rather
interesting experience to you.
If your idea of music is poppy in any form, be it Britney Spears and Paris
Hilton, or My Chemical Romance and Panic! at the Disco, and find artists like
Mozart, Beathoven, Dream Theater and Pink Floyd "boring" or whatever,
then it's likely that you may see the genre as just pure awkward.
Even if you did know what music was, it could be that the music disinterests you,
but you know, it's definately worth a try <_<
